A philosophy: "The taste above all"
The origins of Yamamasa Koyamaen Go back to the beginning of the Edo period, when the founding family started to grow and transform tea into the Uji area near Kyoto. At the end of the Edo period, the first generation founder Masajiro Koyama, started selling tea as wholesaler. Since then, Yamamasa Koyamaen has continued to perfect his art, producing matcha and other teas thanks to an integrated process, culture to the final product, and developing over time varieties of tea of superior tea.
Yamamasa Koyamaen has always privileged the authentic flavor and quality of tea ("Shōmi-Hinshitsu") rather than mass production. By combining ancestral techniques with rational production and distribution systems, our craftsman strives to offer a highest quality tea at fair prices.
Today, Yamamasa Koyamaen remains one of the few tea manufacturers in Uji to own and exploit his own tea plantations. Our craftsman specializes in the high-end matcha and has the confidence of the leaders of the main ceremonial schools of Japanese tea, which each commanded their own original matcha mixtures. Affectionately nicknamed "Matcha No Yamamasa" by practitioners from the tea ceremony and the connoisseurs of Matcha, Yamamasa Koyamaen is recognized for his unwavering commitment to quality.
