Umeboshi 1000g plums
Ref : NISKOB1
Umeboshi is the fruit of the Japanese apricot tree, processed in salt brine and then in vinegar, so that it can be eaten as it is not edible in its fresh state. Ume means "plum" and boshi, "dried".
Salt slows aging process and naturally preserves fruit, while vinegar balances umeboshi sour flavor. Japanese people attribute medicinal virtues to umeboshi, including ability to boost immunity. Its high citric acid content aids digestion and stimulates liver to create a detoxifying effect on the body.
Some say that samurai used to carry it with them at all times during battle, in order to cure illnesses...
Umeboshi has a very fruity aroma. On the palate, due to its high citric acid content, it tastes very sour, almost pungent and, traditionally, very salty. Version we offer is slightly sweetened and reduced in salt (3%).
Umeboshi can be used in many dishes, including vinaigrettes, salad dressings, noodles, sandwiches, marinades, spreads and onigiri, or as a condiment to accompany rice, grilled fish and meat, and raw vegetables (cucumbers, radishes, carrots, etc.).
To enhance sweet, fruity flavor of umeboshi, simply heat them gently on the grill. Our umeboshis are guaranteed free from colorants, additives and preservatives.
