YUTANPO HOT WATER BOTTLE OR OHITSU KEEP WARM
Ref : NISYUT
Yutanpo is a traditional hot water bottle, an everyday item in Japanese households in winter in the past. Pure copper hot water bottles pose no risk of electromagnetic radiation to the human body. The thermal conductivity and heat retention properties of copper keep you warm until morning. If you fill it with hot water and use it as is, it will be too hot and you may burn yourself. It is therefore necessary to wrap it in a towel so that you can use it to warm up cold parts of the body in winter.
However, yutanpo has recently found an original use among sushi chefs. It is used to keep rice warm in ohitsu busket. Ohitsu is a lidded container for rice that was once found in every household. Unlike an electric jar, the ohitsu is highly absorbent, so it absorbs excess water and prevents the rice from sticking. However, ohitsu alone does not retain much heat, which is compensated for by a towel roll + a YUTANPO + a woven straw box with a lid as a container. In this case, the yutanpo is placed under ohitsu.
