Bowl with Donburi Rokube Kuro Mat Ø 17.0 cm, depth 9.1 cm, 1100 ml
Ref : NISKATO60
Donburi is an emblematic dish of Japanese cuisine. Word donburi, sometimes shortened to don, literally means “big bowl” in Japanese. This large bowl is filled with plain white rice and topped with a filling of meat, vegetables and/or fish simmered together in a sauce generally based on soy sauce and mirin, followed by dashi. However, sauce may vary according to region and season.
Ingredients are often cooked with eggs beaten into an omelette with thinly sliced onions. Most common toppings are strips of simmered beef, lacquered eel, breaded pork loin or tonkatsu... This dish special feature is that rice and ingredients are all in the same bowl.
Udon are thick Japanese noodles made from wheat flour, with a white color and a soft texture. They are one of Japan's most popular dishes. Udon are served in a dedicated bowl, in soup or sauce, and are eaten by using chopsticks to bring noodles to mouth while making a sucking sound.
Japanese people will tell you that this sound enhances flavors and helps cool hot noodles as they enter the mouth. If there is a broth, it can be drunk directly from the bowl. Thick udon noodle dishes therefore deserve a bowl that does them justice.
Udon noodles need to be stirred to take full advantage of their flavors. A wider, deeper bowl lets you turn and mix them comfortably without spilling. These thick bowls keep the udon broth hot. Udon can be enjoyed all year round. In cold weather, udon is best eaten hot in a rich broth. In summer, they can be eaten cold or hot in a lighter broth, accompanied by fresh vegetables and tempura.
This collection offers natural colors to match any dish and gives food a fresh look. It is designed to complement both Japanese and contemporary tables. Smooth surface and rounded shape of this bowl give it a soft feel.
